Detailed Description
Pussycat CD
This is the long-lost album that John Phillips recorded as the first solo artist signed to Rolling Stones Records in 1976. Produced by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the album reunited them in the studio for the first time with ex-Stones member Mick Taylor and also features his replacement, Ron Wood. PUSSYCAT presents for the first time the recently-located original '70s mix of the album, together with newly-discovered outtakes and material from the 1976 sessions for Phillips's soundtrack to the film The Man Who Fell To Earth, starring David Bowie.
This shelved solo album was recorded in 1976 and 1977 with various members of The Rolling Stones and Traffic. It was the last major creative effort by John Phillips before his drug arrest in 1980. Various original and duplicate multitrack and mix tapes were stored, lost, and finally found. Just before John's passing in 2001, he assembled and released an overdubbed, re-engineered and remixed version of some of the material on an album called Pay, Pack and Follow. At that time, John was unaware of the location of the original 1978 mixes, which were not located until 2003.
The original 1978 album mix is released here for the first time, as John originally intended it. "Couldn't top those original mixes," he said. "We were creating something great."
The bonus tracks, "Time Machine," "Don't Turn Back Now" and "Feather Your Nest" were not mixed in 1978, and are included here in new mixes made from the original 24-track reels.
"Liar Liar" and "Hello Mary Lou" are outtakes from the 1976 recording sessions for the Nicolas Roeg film The Man Who Fell To Earth.
All tracks are previously unissued.
